‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring not even a mouse, Until…...……Santa falls off the roof!!!!!!!!!!

Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) is a successful toy designer and his son Charlie who lives with his ex wife and her new boyfriend is starting to doubt whether Santa is Real. On Christmas Eve Charlie goes to stay with his dad, who is trying everything to convince his son the Santa is real. In the middle of the night they are both woken by a loud thudding noise and when Scott goes outside to investigate he discovers Santa on his roof. He startles Santa who falls off the roof and ends up disappearing and leaving his suit behind. In an effort to find out what’s going on Scott inadvertently puts on the Santa Suit and by default then becomes the new Santa.

Charlie then becomes his advocate trying to convince everyone that he is Santa. Even Scott is not convinced that he is until he starts to battle with facial hair that grows to a full beard in a day and weight gain that is impossible to shake. In the meantime his Ex wives boyfriend who happens to be a psychiatrist is busy trying to prove that he is not Santa. Eventually Scott believes he is Santa and then has to Battle with those who do not believe.

So How Does This Transfer Hold Up??
The transfer of this film is great. (Shame its in pan and scan) I had trouble finding any major flaws but there are the occasional glitches in ailiasing and some slight graininess. The only thing I could really pick fault with was the darkness of the film in the nighttime scenes in which you lose a lot of the detail. But other than that it’s fantastic.

The Audio is also quite good. I listened to the English 5.1 track and I was impressed. There is little use of the surrounds, some ambience feeling and they are used a little when Santa is flying in his sleigh but not really used to full effect. Michael Convertino has composed a beautiful musical score. Full of enriching Christmas carols and the mood music is really uplifting. You often find yourself singing along.

Extras are the only thing letting this DVD down, because there really isn’t any. The menu is cute but not animated in any way. Your selections are easily seen however which is something that I like.

Overall this is a great family film, lots of witting humour from Tim Allen and a very sweet story. Enjoy this with your family all year round.
