Dumb & Dumber
This hilariously funny 1994 release comes courtesy of New Line Home Video. Starring the well known comedian Jim CARREY (Liar Liar,Cable Guy ,Pet Detective) and Jeff DANIELS (Fly Away Home,Speed) it is the story of two dim witted pals who attempt a cross-country road trip to return a dumped briefcase to it's rightful owner the adorable Lauren HOLLY (Picket Fences), which unbeknowns to them is full of cash. As you can guess along the way the pair manage to find themselves in the most extraordinarily funny situations with motorcycle cops, kidnappers and anyone else who gets in their way. This is a great funny movie with which Jim CARREY puts in another excellent comic performance as Lloyd Christmas. Jeff DANIELS also displays his comic talents as CARREY's sidekick and it is good to see him in a comedy role such as this.
The video transfer from New Line is spot on, New Line Home Video offers DUMB and DUMBER in both Letterboxed and full frame versions on opposite sides of this DVD. Since the theatrical prints for DUMB and DUMBER were in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio, the Letterboxed version is preferable. The full frame version adds information to the top and bottom of the frame, while keeping the same width as the Letterboxed version, so it appears DUMB and DUMBER was produced in the Super-35 format. The full frame version does look quite good, with excellent detail and color. The Letterboxed transfer is highly detailed and the colors are fresh and very well saturated. The scene with CARREY and DANIELS in the orange and blue suits in Chapter 16 really show off the DVD's ability to produce stunningly saturated colours with glowing oranges, deep blues and reds. This saturation is also clearly displayed in Chapter 17 with the scene with HOLLY and DANIELS building a snowman, the bright vibrant colours of their clothing really stand out against the white snowy background without even a hint of colour bleeding. Digital artifacts were never really noticeable on the Letterboxed version. DUMB and DUMBER is presented with a total of 24 Chapters which is acceptable with the films length of 106 minutes.
DUMB and DUMBER'S great visual presentation is also accompanied by an excellent musical score which is presented in the The Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack. The disc also includes the Dolby Prologic downmix and is presented in French as well if you so desire. Although not a movie to really test your system or give your subwoofer a work out the great soundtrack more than makes up for this.
The interactive menu of DUMB and DUMBER includes two theatrical trailers, a photo gallery from the movie plus background history on the stars and includes English, French and Spanish subtitles.
If you like Jim CARREY and you like comedy then this is a DVD definately worth getting, overall it really is a fun DVD to watch, highly recommended.
