Since the early 70s the Muppets have
been entertaining the world over.
So it was no surprise that they make to from the TV set to the big Screen and to date the
Muppets have done so no less than 6 times.
For their third outting Muppets creator Jim Henson & Co, took his prized family to
Manhattan for a few song and dances! Muppets Take Manhattan!
Right out of College the Muppets decide to take their Show (written by Kermit) to
Manhattan to play on Broadway. Not finding it easy to get a backer, the Muppets, for the
first time ever, split up and go their own way until Kermit can secure a deal. Left in the
city by himself, Kermit makes friends with Local Restuaranteer Pete(Louis Zorich) and his
daughter Jenny (Juliana Donald) Miss Piggy, being the ever so jealous swine, stays behind
and spies on her Kermie! Just as the show gets the green light thanks to the Ronnie(Lonny
Price) a budding Broadway Producer, the green frog is hit by a car and develops amnesia,
and becomes, Phil, the newest member of a marketing team for soap!So
How Does This Transfer Hold Up?
VIDEO
Coming from The Columbians I was expecting a decent transfer of this film, and
this Anamorphic Widescreen Transfer turned to even better than I had
hoped for. While it does show signs of some edge enhancement, and noise reduction
(to remove grain), its actually a pretty good looking overall, and the Muppet
characters are just full of detail and show a wonderful colour saturation. Its the
Human counterparts that seem to show any real problems, and even those are what youd
consider minor problems! Youll see the odd bit signs of a dirt print, but with so
much going on, as is always the case in any muppet venture, its easy to look past!
AUDIO
Being made in the mid 80s I really would have expected a stereo mix for our Muppet
Friends (they certain made up for it with Muppets from Space though). However, MTM is only
in dreaded Dolby Digital Mono! Its still a decent sounding mix for
mono with enough clarity and detail for you to clearly hear whats going on,
its really just the music that that suffers for lack of stereo here.
EXTRAS
Not much on offer Im afraid, just the Original Theatrical Movie Trailer and a very
nice trailer for Muppets in Space (this one presented in Dolby Digital 5.1!!!)
You gotta Love the Muppets, and their up to true form in this Third Outing!!!
