This movie is very typical of Adam
Sandlers early movies so depending on whether you like his larger than life humour
and personality you will either really enjoy or really dislike this movie. He plays Billy
Maddison who has had a charmed life living off his fathers millions and has spent
his 10 years post high school by the pool, drinking daiquaries and playing childish
pranks. Anything except participating in activities that require the use of any intellect.
So therefore when it comes time for his
father to turn over control of his company, his weasel of a vice president, Eric proposes
that he would be a better choice for the new president. Particularly as his father recalls
that Billy only made it through school the first time thanks to his generous
"donations". Billy convinces his father to give him one last chance to prove
himself and vows to complete grades 1 through 12 in 24 weeks. Of course Eric is not going
to give up without a chance and puts plans into motion to thwart Billy. And there is of
course a pretty schoolteacher along the way that Billy attempts to woo with his childish
charm.
The movie plot lends itself to many
humorous situations but as I said above it is very very much the full on Adam Sandler
style of humour which either appeals or it doesnt. After all we are talking about a
plot that has a grown man return to primary school! |
So how does this transfer hold up?
.... |
VIDEO
Overall the Anamorphic Widescreen transfer is quite good with nice sharp images. Skin tones for the most
part are realistic. Overall the movie has a very bright happy feel about it and the
colours are used to enhance the atmosphere. For example the indoor class scenes are
extremely bright through the use of vibrant clothing and strong lighting. There is also
the use of alternate lighting such as blue and red toned windows to give even more variety
in the colours used. A slight criticism is that the colours are almost too intense at
times and a couple of the bright indoor scenes show some shimmering. The outdoor scenes
are noticeably less bright than the indoor scenes, although they still impart a positive
feeling. |

AUDIO
The Dolby Digital
2.0 Surround Encoded English Soundtrack provided is nothing too spectacular here.
Dialogue is clear and the audio synching is good. The movie doesnt have a lot of
huge sound effects, being mostly dialogue based so there is minimal use of the surrounds. |

EXTRAS
Fairly standard for an older movie as this DVD
