For Immediate Release
Infogrames' Dune to be Australia's
First Locally Authored DTS Disc
Sydney 9TH February 2001 - INFOGRAMES
Asia Pacific proudly announced today they'll be releasing the highly anticipated 2001
re-release of Dune as Australia's first locally authored DTS Disc. This huge release
establishes Infogrames not only as a major player in the DVD market, but also as one of
the most consumer focussed distributors in the industry being the first local distributor
to provide the Region 4 market with the locally authored DTS product they've been
screaming for.
In 1993, Steven Spielberg's
blockbuster Jurassic Park introduced the crisp, clear sound of DTS (Digital Theatre
Systems), changing forever the way we experience sound in a movie theatre. Groundbreaking
in its flexibility, DTS has rapidly become the digital sound format preferred by DVD
enthusiasts worldwide. DTS is the least compressed sound format available for DVD product,
providing a digital sound that is nearly identical to what the filmmaker intended us to
hear and virtually indistinguishable from PCM (CD quality sound) to the human ear.
Region 1 has been spoilt with regular
DTS releases for at least a year now while the Region 4 DTS market lay dormant. The
limited access to DTS encoding left Australian authoring houses with no option but to deny
Region 4 consumer the luxury of this superior sound format. Stream AV, an authoring house
in Melbourne, have changed all this by successfully authoring Infogrames' Dune using a new
commercially available DTS solution.
The local production of Dune by
Stream AV marks a revolutionary step forward for the DVD Industry here in Australia - this
means Australian distributors will now be able to author DTS product locally at an
affordable cost.
Previous to this, the only option for
DTS authoring was through DTS themselves who accepted media from authoring/mastering
houses. This proved too expensive for our infant DVD market to justify.
As newcomers to the DVD market,
Infogrames are excited to be at the forefront of local technology. Jamie Broderick,
Infogrames Asia Pacific
Business Development Director, states
"Infogrames are proud to be supporting the Australian DVD industry and also to be one
of the first to provide the Region 4 consumer with the premier DVD product they've been
denied for so long. We'd like to thank the Region 4 consumers for their patience in the
led up to the release of Dune. I'm sure they'll agree with me, it was well worth the
wait." |
