DVD Reviews
You've probably seen that funky little wierd guy acting in Reserviour Dogs and Con Air, but thatfunky little wierd guy also does a spot of directing now and then.   Steve Busemi put himself behind the camera for his 3rd directing gig with the prison drama Animal Factory, reviewed by Kathryn.

Love, suicide and robbery is all it takes these days to make a movie, Kathryn has also reviewed Kill Me Later (with Selma Blair, best known as girl who got herself a tonguey from the Buffster in Cruel Intentions)

Speaking of good tonguing techniques, rounding out the reviews from me this time, is Jeepers Creepers (watch the DVD and you'll soon know what i mean by that tongue reference :)

DVD Slicks and Menu Shots
Today's menu shots are from the latest in the looong line of baseball flicks, Summer Catch as well as Ab Fab series 3, and Anthony Hopkin's Hannibal inbetweener, Hearts in Atlantis (which also happens to be based on the novel by Steven King)

It's another Happy Birthday 4 us
DVDown Under may only just be 4 years old (as at 17th June) , but you gotta admit that's pretty good for a website when so many vanish within no time at all.
I won't bother with the usual ramblings of DVD past and DVD to come (I heard that cassandra margaret nunn :), but will merely say it's been 4 good years of DVD'ing, even though it is getting harder and harder to keep up with this massively fast moving industry.
We've grown from a family of 2 (me and paul) and into a family of 5 with 3 new kids along the way. Cass, Kath and Tim (I really do need to speak to the kids about not doing their reviews..err I mean homework :))

So if you're reading this, thanks for your support over the years, and please please please.. if you find ANY mysteaks, drop us a line.  (if it's shockingly bad spelling mistakes we wanna know..or if we've made a major boo-boo in a review..like say, we reviewed the region 4 MOVIE ONLY Jeepers Creepers DVD from Roadshow and said, "oh the victor salva comm track was fantastic and insightful, and the deleted scenes a nice bonus, as was the trailers and photo gallery!!...which is EXACTLY what I was horrified to read in an AUSSIE Region 4 DVD magazine yesterday.. now,  WHAT dvd magazine was that again??..hmmmmmm it'll come to me!

anyhoo, Happy DVD'ing from us and Happy 4th Birthday to us :)

DeeVeeDee.....Done Dirt Cheap!!
Even though it's close to the end of the financial year, and there's DVD aplenty at a very cheap price, a few studios seem to be getting in on the bargain basement price for DVDs.
Warner are set to release some $19.95 DVDs (granted most are NTSC Region 4 versions), but Magna are offering a ridiculously low $9.95 on a whole bunch.

Warner's July lineup features some great titles with the under $20 price tag, like the fully remastered Joe Versus the Volcano (it's pretty damn impressive to), Forget Paris, and Cameron Crowe's Singles.
August sees the release of Magna's new low price and "remarketing" of some of the funky horror flicks with their "Grim Reapings" series (I think the name's pretty cool actually :).
for the disgustingly low price of $10 you can pick us such schlocky gems as Cherry Falls, Doppleganger, Ginger Snaps and my favourite of the bunch Psycho Beach Party :)

DVD Reviews
Just 2 for this week.  Kathryn took a look at Don't Say a Word, and then there's the Ally McBeal Season 1 DVD boxset review from me.   (Ally McBeal is available EXCLUSIVELY from Ezy DVD... Though Ally is a FOX release, they weren't going to bother releasing it in Australia, but EZY DVD thought otherwise and so got a deal setup so as THEY could be the ONLY ONES to release it in Australia on DVD.... way to go Jim!!! )

Friday the 13th Part 5 Audio Followup
We got word back from Paramount regarding FTTP5  and it being listed as having a Dolby 5.1 audio mix... sorry..it's mono just like  2 through 4 :(.. ah well

Are you Ready for Eddie?
This August sees the release of a whole swag of Eddie Murphy flicks from the Paramount Vault (i didn't realise how many moofies he made for paramount).
The DVD Lineup includes Beverley Hills Cop 1, 2 & 3, 48 Hours, Another 48 Hours, Vampire in Brooklyn, Harlem Nights, The Golden Child and Coming to America.
On the Audio side, ALL these DVDs are credited as carrying Dolby Digital 5.1 mixes!.
On the Picture Side, 48 Hours & Another 48 Hours are oddly 4x3 Letterboxed Widescreen, with the rest being Anamorphic Widescreen?

Would you like some Sex with your DVD?
Season 1 of the smash hit TV show, Sex & the City makes its way to DVD in a 2 disc set this August (6 x 25 min Eps per DVD).  Each Episode is presented in Anamorphic Widescreen WITH Dolby Digital 5.1 encoded sound!!!! (gotta love HBO! :)

More August DVDs from Paramount
Rounding out the rest of the August Paramount DVDs are the following

Intersection, Pootie Tang, The Italian Job, Alfie, The Phantom, Friday the 13th Part 5, He Said She Said, The Nutty Professor.
ALL of these dvds are listed as being in Anamorphic Widesreen WITH Dolby Digital 5.1 sound!!! (we're checking up on Friday 13th seeing as it's one of those low budget crap horror films released theatrically in mono sound..like the previous 4 re-hashes!   :)))

A DVD fit for a Princess!
FINALLY Region 4 is to get the DVD version of a film loved by film lovers around the world!  On the 14th of August Magna Pacific are set to unleash The Princess Bride to DVD!  YAY!  and you wanna know the BEST part??   OUR verison will include a DTS5.1 audio track!!!..in case you've just done a double take, I'll repeat myself... OUR version will include a DTS5.1 audio track..in case you've just done a...oh never mind :)  As for the picture itself.   it is in widescreen though the information at hand wasn't specific as to whether it is anamophic Widescreen or 4x3 letterboxed.
No other specs for this DVD were available at present, but rest assured, we'll be on the case...as you wish :)

As it will be Four-told on DVD
You may have read on the web, the specs for the region 1 - 4 disc DVD version of Lord of the Rings : Fellowship of the Rings were recently unvealed on the LOTR website.  We've confirmed with Roadshow that the region 4 Version will be identical to the region 1 version...

Here's a rundown of what has to be the most ambitious DVD Movie release since day dot!
You'll notice that the movie itself is spread over 2 x RSDLs.  Due to the near 4 hour running time, and SEVEN audio tracks, the picture quality would be severely compromised if squeezed onto 1 RSDL DVD...

DVD Review
The original film version of Ocean's 11 was not well known because of it been seen as a good film, but because of it's cast.....the brat pack.
The 2001 version of Ocean's 11 improves upon the original storywise AND contains another select group of "IN" cast members.

DVD Slicks & Menus
We've some DVD Menus of upcoming DVD titles, including Jeeper's Creepers, Bottom - Live, Let Them Eat Cake, and Secret Bridesmaid's Business
