Quick Chat with STREAM AV
What the hell's a Stream AV i hear you say?  Stream AV are one of a few DVD authoring houses in Australia, and are  Victorian based.  Stream AV author DVDs for the likes of BMG (they did the Johnny Farnham 33 1/3 DVD) and are also one of the authoring houses for Infogrames' DVDs (they did the 3 halloween DVDs as well as the very shmick looking Stephen King's The Dead Zone).

Stream AV also have the honour of being the first Australian DVD authoring House to author and encode a DTS DVD for the Aussie Market, with the upcoming release of the long overdue remaster of David Lynch's Cult Classic DUNE.

Today I was fortunate to speak with Stream AV's Director Paul Rogers.  Click HERE to read our Article

Universal Pictures 2001 Plans
Having neglected my Site duties for the past few weeks (trying to get some holiday time in AND get the Snapper Replacement orders out isn't easy ya know :)  I made a few calls around DVD Land today.  Michael Snow of Universal Pictures was kind enough to fill me in on what's happening from his neck of the woods with releases from Dreamworks and Universal.

Being a Day of DTS, my first question was, "will we see any DVDS with DTS?"   (seeing as both Universal and Dreamworks USA are the biggest players in the DTS DVD market, one would assume they'd do the same outside the USA..buuuut).
While nothing has been set in stone, the issue is still be discussed (not quite the answer i was hoping for, but it's better than a big fat NO!   :)

So starting with tentative may releases, here's what Univeral Pictures hopes to release to region 4.

From May onwards they're looking at  Galaxy Quest, Mouse Hunt, Pauly, When We Were Kings, Highlander.
Two Doctor Who Movies Dr Who and Daleks, and Daleks' Invasion Earth: 2150AD (both starring Peter Cushings).  The plan with these is to release BOTH movies on the one DVD, in widescreen (still not sure if there's Anamorphic Widescreen Transfers available), and a 60 minute dr who doco as an extra....sweeet.   As neither of these movies are available on DVD anywhere in the world, Australia may be the first to get them!!  mwooohahahaha
Jaws 4 boxset(all four jaws flicks...wonder if #3 will be in 3-D... i think not!! :),
2 lots of Alfred Hitchcock Collection Boxsets.  Each boxset will contain 7 of Hitch's Films.  The first boxset will have Rear Window and Psycho as they leading titles, and the 2nd boxset will contain the Birds and Vertigo among others.  Psycho will be the same DVD released thru Columbia, as will Vertigo.

Interestingly, Universal Pictures have the Distribution rights to The Final double episode of the brilliantly funny Absolutely Fabulous..[The Last Shout]  and plan to release it sometime in June/July.  (Roadshow Hold the rights to all the others....c'mon guys!!!  :)

And i've saved the best for last.  Toward the end of the year expect to see a Triple Box set of Back to the Future...sweeet.

Oh, Castway and Meet the Parents will also be out before the end of the year :)

PS a majority of the orders awaiting HEAT Slicks have been shipped today..but without the HEAT slicks, which we will be posting at a later date (you should have been notified by email by now if your order was shipped)

DUNE DVD Remaster gets a really sweet AUDIO upgrade
Well it seems as though the region 4 DVD Re-Release of DUNE is to receive an even BETTER upgrade than everyone initially expected.  After the Abysmal DVD release from FORCE (with a ghastly pan and scan piccy and crap 2 channel sound), Infogrames have gone a few steps better, not only offering DUNE with a Widescreen Transfer but are also including a DTS5.1 audio mix!  yes that's right, not a DOLBY 5.1 mix, but a DTS5.1 mix!
As this info has only just crossed our desk (well it actually came via email in an Infogrames press Release) we have not been able to find out if this DTS DVD will also include [the initally planned] Dolby 5.1 & Dolby 2.0 mixes as well.  (i belive that a Region 4 DVD must have at the very least a Dolby 2.0 track to conform to the PAL DVD standards, so a DTS mix by itself is a big no-no)

While Columbia's GLADIATOR DVD has the honour of being the first PAL DTS encoded DVD to hit Australian shores, the DTS mix for DUNE is being Encoded right here in OZ by Stream AV..so is the first DTS DVD to be encoded on our Shores.

One can only hope that this a trend Infogrames continue with on future DVD releases   (hmmmm wouldn't a DTS 5.1 and RSDL DVD release of Halloween be nice now guys...hint hint :)
