I'm Sensing something eerie on DVD this April!!!
It looks like the DVD news Drought is pretty much over..thanks god....got wind today (not that sort..jeez)  that the ever so creepy The Sixth Sense will arrive on  Region 4 DVD Date and Day with the VHS release on 12th April.
First expected to do only mediocre business The Sixth Sense very quickly turned into one of the highest grossing films of 1999...an honour it truly deserved (I guess everyone having to see it twice just thanks to a mind blowing ending was a bit of a help in this area )
Unlike far too many Buena Vista titles released not only in OZ but pretty much every where else, this one is set to have a nice compliment of extras.  Not only will this DVD be Anamorphic Widescreen and have a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix in English and Italian, it will also include a truckload of deleted scenes, Story Board to Film Comparisons, interviews with the cast, a music and sound design feature, something called Reaching the Audience (assuming a featurette there), Rules and Clues, Conversation of the Director & Cast and Crew Bios.  It'll still be priced at the very nice $34.95 to.

Top Line DVDisney Animation this May
Coming in May to DVD will be 6 of Disney's prized animated Classics.   101 Dalmations, Hercules, The Little Mermaid, Lady and the Tramp, Mulan, and Pinnocio will all be releases for a limited time.  As Disney did in the USA, these titles will be priced higher than the standard Disney/B Vista Line being $39.95, while the other titles from Warner and BV will stay at $34.95.

Warner / BV Upcoming Releases
April looks to be a great month for DVD across the board. in region 4.   Warner have 4 Date and Day titles, The previously mentioned the Sixth Sense, as well as Wild Wild West (with a truck load of extras, unfortunately the movie had to be included on the disc as well), Pokemon (oh god!!) and Mickey Blue Eyes (err, I have absolutely no negative comments to make about this truly wonderful and inspirational film :-)

3rd April releases
Wild Wild West, Pokemon, Casablanca, Falling Down, Instinct, Runaway Bride, Rushmore

12th April releases
The Sixth Sense

19th April
Mickey Blue Eyes

1st May releases
101 Dalmatians, Hecules, The Little Mermaid, Lady and the Tramp, Mulan, Pinnocio, and Eyes Wide Shut

31st May releases
Inspector Gadget

CTHV Upcoming Releases
Columbia have a few goodies over the next few months also

April Releases
Random Hearts, Jakob the Liar, October Sky, Cirque Du Soliel : Quidam (not the 3d one sorry)

May releases
Blue Streak, eXistenZ, Beowulf, Vertigo (collectors  Edition), Henry & June

Early June Releases
Dudley Doo Right, Crazy in Alabama, Run Lola Run, Bicentennial Man

Late June Releases
Bow Finger , Mystery Men, Gorgeous, Muppets in Space (a very cool movie), Fortress 2

PS In The Other day's editorial it was mentioned a rumour was out and about that a studio would be upping their DVDs to $39.95 for all titles, expect an official announcement about this shortly. Presently it can not be confirmed nor denied by the studio in question (for good reason)

Super Speedway Now Available
Want to reeeeeally show of the sound side of your Home Theatre System, then this is the disc for you.  Super Speedway is a disc used by many HT specialty stores (and some no so special, but hey).  It comes with an incredible 5.1 Dolby Track (the bass attack is bar none!!! and it's even got that little THX logo on it.  It's retailing in OZ for $34.95 and comes in the snapper case.  Get 'em while they're hot...rodding!!! (okay that was pretty lame I admit..but one must maintain some sort of consistency yeah? :-)

Budget DVD titles on their Way
While there's rumours of 'another' studio hiking the price of their DVDs in OZ to $39.95 (gasp), you'll be pleased to know that we're about to hit with a swag of DVDs prices well under $20.  In the up coming weeks, DVD Australia are set to release around 40 titles within this price range.  (throttle junkies and Gate to the Minds Eye Were just a few mentioned).  Of course you can't expect these sorts of DVDs to match up to the likes of The Mummy or Matrix, but it's nice to see Australias getting a range of lower priced DVDs rather than this sort of thing being confined to the USA and Canada.

World War II in colour
Like The Green Mile, this DVD has an overall running time over 3 hours!!!
Anyone with the slightest interest in Historal War time events will undubtedly want to grab when it comes out next week (selling for $29.95)
Here's what's included - Colour footage includes Hitler and Eva Braun, D-Day, a B-17 bombing raid over Germany, the Allied advance into France and Italy, the liberation of Dachau, Midway, Saipan, Tarawa, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and Hiroshima and never-before-seen declassified footage.  The Dolby Digtial soundtrack is in 5.1 and the video is 4x3 framed
But Wait there's more....also included is a timeline with vintage newsreels and photos that give an overview of WWII as well as a global map that separates the war into Pacific and European battles. Another bonus included is "Combat America" , narrated by Clark Gable, and two bonus battles: Invasion of Italy & Battle for Germany. Out next week From DVD Australia

Today's Reviews
Idle Hands
is one of the latest offers from Columbia in the Collector's Edition Stakes and meets this classification with ease

Cass has reviewed and scorned Scent of a Woman for it's lack of Enhancement (when credited on the slick as being 16:9 Enhanced) and for some other video nasties.

Yesterday's Reviews
It was getting on a bit when the reviews were posted last night so no editorial was done.  (you try writting a Shank review and sitting through the two running commentaries of Against all Odds...'oy!!   :-))))))
Anyhoo, the ever so brilliant film and very impressive DVD of Shawshank Redemption was reviewed along with a classic, To Sir With Love

Today's Reviews
Paul's Whipped up a couple of reviews today - Universal Soldier : The Return (if only you could should you buy it!! :) and the animated Heavy Metal, both of which are CTHV's Collector's Edition DVDs (though only Uni Sol is priced at $39.95..frankly i thought they should pay us to put this DVD in our collections...jeez :-)

Ultimate Demo Disc
Finnaly got a look see at the disc that's caused quite a stir around the world, and though a review will be coming shortly, it's worth mentioning a few things about it .
Even for just the TV Tools part (which takes you through the steps to properly adjust ALL your TV settings for the best possible picture to watch DVDs with), it's definitely worth buying.  I do also love the fact that you can change audio formats on the fly to really get a good comparison with the demo pieces.  While most the material on the disc is not taken from "mainstream" movies you'll get the jist of it all...nice one A-Pix.  To find out where on the web you can buy this DVD...drop By DVD Plaza and try out their search engine

PS Scream 3 made over $US32 million in it's first weekend at the US box Office...Long live Wes Craven and Horror!!!!

Scream Some More
Looks like Roadshow are set for a big hit shortly with their Theatrical release of Scream 3.  As with the previous two Scream films of the intended Trilogy, the tongue in cheek approach has once again proven successful, at least to the critics who say it's the funniest of the lot and has soooo many killings it's not funny (that's what i like to see!!!).  And in a very brave move, 'Dimension Films' have released this film to close to 3500 USA Cinemas  (which is even MORE screens than SW: Episode 1 got!!)....and I'm sure we'll see Scream 3 on DVD long Before Episode 1..BTW have you signed the Star Wars DVD Petition yet?
